28. North Carolina — Olenna Tyrell

Olenna Tyrell, one of the craftiest players in our little game of thrones, also happens to be one of the richest players (especially now with no family to share the fortune with. Too soon?). Either way, after the Lannisters, the Tyrells are said to be the richest family in the Seven Kingdoms. And naturally, we chose a state with the second largest concentration of banks in the United States; North Carolina.

Most may know not that Charlotte, North Carolina, but it is home to among others, Bank of America. Olenna is a woman who enjoys the extravagance of money, and North Carolina has that in spades. North Carolina’s natural beauty would also likely be attractive to Olenna, with rivers, mountains and coastal plains in abundance. North Carolina is also the native home of the Venus fly trap, the state’s official carnivorous plant. And with respect to the golden rose of House Tyrell, we believe the Venus fly trap is a much more appropriate sigil for the crafty and cunning “Queen of Thorns.”

Given Olenna’s obvious disdain for King’s Landing, with its crowds and noise, NASCAR might prove to be a point of irritation for the eldest Tyrell. Still, if Olenna’s only problem is the state’s unofficial sport, we think Olenna would represent the Tar Heel state quite well.
