23. New Mexico — Bran Stark

New Mexico, the “Land of Enchantment” is perhaps one of the most overlooked states in the Union, just like young Bran Stark. Bran initially wanted to grow up and seek knighthood, but Jaime’s actions in the series premiere left Bran crippled and unable to ever walk again. Bran’s injury would lead him down a different path, one that would eventually lead him to assume the mantle of the Three-Eyed Raven, a mystical all-seeing shaman.

And thus, Bran Stark best represents the “Land of Enchantment.” Bran appears poised to play a major role in the final two seasons of the show, and yet is overshadowed by his more dashing siblings Jon, Sansa, and Arya. Much in the same way New Mexico, the United States’ fifth largest state is overshadowed by its larger and more flashy siblings Texas, California, and Alaska. Bran’s mystical powers would prove a natural fit for the state, and its low population levels would surely remind Bran of his home in the North, which has an equally low population for its size.

Much of Bran’s power is derived from the magical weirwood trees found scattered throughout Westeros, and with New Mexico’s motto of “It grows as it grows” something tells us those trees would find a suitable home alongside Bran in New Mexico as well.
