49. Nebraska — Lancel Lannister

OK, we couldn’t work “Cornhusker” into our argument, but Lancel Lannister has more in common with the “Cornhusker State” than at first glance. Lancel, the oldest son of Kevan Lannister initially began his arc on Game of Thrones as a vain, if somewhat naive pawn of first Cersei, and eventually Tyrion. After being injured in the Battle of the Blackwater, Lancel retreated from the public eye, only to reemerge as a devout follower of the Faith of the Seven, and their militant offshoot, the Sparrows. And it’s here that the similarities begin.

Like Lancel, Nebraska is a state with two sides. The western half of the state is part of the Great Plains and feature a prairie setting with a semi-arid climate. The eastern half of the state, features rolling hills and a much more humid climate, along with the state’s largest cities. Perhaps even more important is that Nebraska is a primarily Christian state, the largest portion of which identify as Catholic. The Medieval Catholic Church is the religion upon which George R.R. Martin based the Faith Militant according to Entertainment Weekly.

And last, though perhaps least, Nebraska is the birthplace of Kool-Aid. Is there any character on Game of Thrones that was drinking the Kool-Aid more than Lancel Lannister?
