46. Pennsylvania — Brynden “Blackfish” Tully

Just take a look at that guy, does he look like he gives a damn what other people think? Brynden “Blackfish” Tully made one thing clear during his time on the show in season 3 and 6, the man does not suffer fools lightly. The gruff and unyielding demeanor remind you of anyone? That’s right, the state of Pennsylvania.

Whether it’s in its love for its sports teams like the Philadelphia Eagles, where even Santa Clause gets booed, or its general love for the state itself, Pennsylvanians are proud of their state and always ready to let you know this. Cities like Pittsburgh have the sort of blue-collar, hard-working reputation that a man like the Blackfish would have appreciated.

Pennsylvania’s state words would have likewise warmed the heart of the Blackfish “Virtue, Liberty, and Independence.” The Blackfish spent the later years of his life fighting for the independence of the North and the Riverlands, never hesitating to serve in pursuit of that cause.

Of course, no character can truly represent a state without the matching insignia, but rest assured the Blackfish falls right in line. As a member of House Tully, the Blackfish’s sigil is, of course, a trout (in his case a blackened trout). Pennslyvania long ago chose the Brook Trout as its official fish. Brook trout, black trout. Same thing right?
