Game of Thrones season 8 may not start until 2019

This is potentially bad news for Game of Thrones fans.

Entertainment Weekly, In a recent interview with HBO programming president Casey Bloys, found out some potentially devastating news for Game of Thrones fans, as there might be a very good possibility of that Game of Thrones season could be delayed until 2019. That’s right, it’s not a typo: 2019.

EW straight up asked Bloys if season 8 would be airing in 2019, and here is his response:

"They have to write the episodes and figure out the production schedule. We’ll have a better sense of that once they get further into the writing."

While that’s certainly not a definitive answer, either way, it is important to note that Bloys did not confirm or deny the question.

With Game of Thrones season 7 right around the corner on July 16, and with the fact that season 7 will only have seven episodes, as well as the fact that season 8 will only have six episodes, Game of Thrones fans might be on edge at the possibility of the show take a complete year off, which is something it has never done.

As for the five spinoffs that HBO is currently in talks to produce, Bloys has some clarification on those, as well.

"In the press at large, everybody said, ‘there are four spinoffs’ and they assume that means each one is happening and we’re going to have a new Game of Thrones show per quarter. That’s not what’s going on. The idea is not to do four shows. The bar set by [Game of Thrones showrunners David Benioff and Dan Weiss] is so high that my hope is to get one show that lives up to it. Also, this is a long-term plan. Our No. 1 goal is the seventh season this summer and getting the eighth season written and aired."

So there you have it. Don’t expect a Game of Thrones spinoff to be ready to go as soon as the season 8 finale airs, and, don’t expect all five writers to actually get approved to produce their own versions. Also, Dan Weis and David Benioff, the current Game of Thrones showrunners, will not be involved.
