5. Why is Euron Greyjoy sailing for King’s Landing?

Euron Greyjoy made quite the entrance in season 6, throwing his brother Balon off a bridge just seconds after we were introduced to him. After winning the kingship of the Iron Islands and chasing off his niece and nephew (Theon and Yara) Euron ordered “a thousand ships” built to replace the ones stolen by Theon and Yara. Judging from the trailers, it seems Euron built at least some of those ships. But what exactly is Euron headed to King’s Landing for?

Euron saw the writing on the wall; the Iron Islands could not fight the mainland alone, they needed allies. Euron’s initial plan was to recruit Daenerys Targaryen to the cause of the Iron Islands, but Theon and Yara beat him to that punch winning the dragon mother to their side instead. If Euron is still in search of a mainland ally, the new King in the Iron Islands has no choice but to seek out the new Queen of the Seven Kingdoms, Cersei Lannister.

The Tyrells and Martells are allied with Dany, House Arryn is now allied with the Starks thanks to Littlefinger, and Houses Baratheon and Tully aren’t power players at the moment. That leaves only Cersei and House Lannister. The question then becomes, do the villains seal the deal with a marriage? Or is it purely platonic? Euron might just be Cersei’s kind of crazy, but we’re guessing Jaime might have some feelings on the matter. Either way, Euron isn’t heading to King’s Landing for a bowl of brown.
