4. Where in Westeros is Daenerys?

Both trailers make it abundantly clear that Daenerys has finally returned to Westeros after six long seasons of adventures in Essos. What might be unclear to the casual viewer, however, is where exactly Daenerys has landed in the Seven Kingdoms. Lucky for you, we spend an unhealthy amount of time obsessing over Game of Thrones, and have a definitive answer; Dragonstone.

We were fairly sure Daenerys had landed on the shores of her family’s ancestral in the first trailer, but the above shot leaves no room for mistake. That’s Daenerys pulling down the banner of one Stannis Baratheon, the last occupant of Dragonstone. Stannis resided on Dragonstone during seasons 2 through 4 before sailing north to the Wall. To our knowledge, Stannis left no significant force behind when he sailed to his doom, so it makes for an easy landing spot for Daenerys.

In addition to other strategic reasons for landing on Dragonstone (being close to King’s Landing), there are sentimental reasons for Dany to start her war for the Seven Kingdoms here as well.  Built by House Targaryen hundreds of years ago, Dragonstone has long been the seat of the Targaryens, and it was here that Aegon the Conqueror began his, well conquest. More importantly, Dragonstone is the last place in Westeros Dany ever set foot; it was from here that she sailed to Essos fleeing Stannis (acting on Robert’s orders). The symbolism of returning to the last place she ever was in Westeros is not likely lost on Dany, and now is not lost on you.
