12. Ex Machina
Another comic book that could be perfect for an adaptation for TV is the Wildstorm comic book series Ex Machina. Created by Brian K. Vaughan and Tony Harris, Ex Machina was a very interesting story about a man who developed superpowers but has since given up his role as a superhero to become the Mayor of New York City.
The story sees Mitchell Hundred become a national hero when he was able to stop the destruction of the World Trade Center on 9/11.
As a result, he is elected the Mayor of New York City and has to deal with many problems that seem even more difficult than his actions as a super powered hero. The comic, which lasted 50 issues, has numerous flashbacks showing how he got his powers and his early adventures and then mixes in with the present day when someone from his past is trying to ruin him now that he has retired.
Ex Machina is an incredibly intriguing comic book that is more interested in the human interest aspects of what being a hero means in today’s world and the different ways a person can work to change the world for the better.
This would be like mixing one of the many superhero TV shows and putting it in the world of The West Wing. Political intrigue and super heroics make this a perfect choice for any number of premium networks such as Spike TV, AMC, or even Showtime.
