13. The Curseworkers

Author Holly Black has already seen one of her novels adapted into a pretty good movie with the Spiderwick Chronicles.

However, while that was a great book for a movie adaptation, something she wrote later could make a very intriguing television series. That would be Black’s Curse Workers series. The first book, Black Cat, was released in 2010 and was followed by Red Glove and Black Heart. This is a self-contained trilogy that could fit in well with today’s supernatural television audience.

White Cat introduces an alternate world where there are “workers” who can use magical abilities by touching other people – making it illegal in that world. These magical skills include luck, death, emotion, memory, dream, and even transformation.

The hero is Cassel Sharpe, a guy from a large family of workers who believes he has no powers of his own.

The stories fit nicely into the urban fantasy series and could fit in well in a world where shows like Witches of East End, Salem and Lost Girl are so popular. This could be a perfect addition to a network like Freeform or SyFy.
