24. Discworld

One of the most complicated book series to turn into an adaptation for TV might be this next choice. From 1983 until his death in 2015, science fiction and fantasy writer Terry Pratchett wrote 41 different books in his Discworld series.

The entire idea behind the series is ludicrous and incredibly inventive. The world is flat and is carried through space on the backs of giant elephants who stand on the back of a giant turtle that is floating from the start of time towards the end.

What really makes these stories work so well is that Pratchett is a great humorist and is able to take social issues of the day and warp them to fit the world of Discworld in ways that create biting satire using classical myths, fairy tales, folklore, and homages to other literary works.

Now, there is a problem with Discworld being a TV show and that is that each novel is a standalone tale but that could work in a similar manner to shows like Fargo, American Horror Story, and True Detective.

While two of those mentioned shows are on FX, Discworld is in no way a good fit for a network like FX. When it comes to a property like Discworld, a perfect landing spot would be something like Netflix, Hulu, or Amazon Prime. The latter is a perfect fit because Amazon Prime can work on advertising the 41 novels in with advertising the series and create a huge package deal for themselves.
