Diving Deep: Game of Thrones 7×04 ‘The Spoils of War’ Photos
HBO has released 10 all-new photos from Game of Thrones episode 704, “The Spoils of War.”
With this week’s episode of Game of Thrones ‘The Spoils of War’ set to have some major battles, betrayals, and conflicts, we are breaking down and diving deep into the new photos from the episode that were just released by HBO. Take a look below at our analysis:
Winterfell
1. Littlefinger
In the first photo, we see Littlefinger (Aidan Gillen) gazing upon the snowy grounds of Winterfell. Even when just looking over the balcony Petyr Baelish comes off as very creepy, and at this point, we think it might just be his face.
This photo though has us wondering what Littlefinger is looking at though. Assuming that Jon Snow (Kit Harington) will be staying at Dragonstone mining his dragonglass this episode, we have to say that he is either watching over his crush Sansa Stark (Sophie Turner), Bran Stark (Isaac Hempstead Wright) who just arrived in Winterfell, Brienne of Tarth (Gwendoline Christie) who Littlefinger may be scheming on taking out since she stands between him and Sansa, or maybe even Arya Stark (Maisie Williams) who’s might just make it home in this episode.
Whoever Littlefinger is watching, we have a strong feeling he is planning something nefarious since we witness him pulling out his dagger Catspaw on someone in the trailer for ‘The Spoils of War’.
2. Brienne of Tarth and Podrick Payne
While this photo of Brienne and Podrick Payne (Daniel Portman) is less revealing than the Littlefinger image, there’s a good chance that these characters are all witnessing the same event unfolding in Winterfell.
Considering Arya is heading home and this season is set to hyper speed, it wouldn’t be surprising in we get another heartwarming Stark reunion in this episode between the young assassin and the newly minted protector of the North (Sansa, not Jon. I don’t think we’re prepared for Arya and Jon reunion just yet).
Back to Brienne and Pod though, it’s actually pretty exciting that we are getting a photo of the knight and squire considering both of them haven’t had large roles in the season yet. We have seen some glimpses of Brienne looking pleased in court whenever a female character receives power (like Sansa) or when one is being bad-ass (like the spitfire Lyanna Mormont played by Bella Ramsey), but she hasn’t actually done anything yet this season besides avoiding Tormund (Kristofer Hivju).
It looks like that is going to change with the new trailer revealing Brienne swinging her sword and this new photo showcasing her.
3. Sansa Stark
In this Sansa photo, it looks like she is back at the Weirwood tree at Winterfell. If you remember in last week’s episode Bran and Sansa were having a totally awkward and uncomfortable sibling bonding experience when Bran proved that he is the three-eyed raven by telling her how pretty she looked on her wedding night when she was brutally raped by Ramsay Bolton (Iwan Rheon).
This, of course, makes Sansa uncomfortable and we see her rush away, so it’s surprising to see her back at the tree in ‘The Spoils of War.’

She could be visiting Bran again to learn more about what it means to be the three-eyed raven, or she might be doing some soul searching of her own at the worshiping place of the old gods.
Either way, Sophie Turner continues looking as fierce as ever (and a lot like Cersei) in her black fur outfit.
