6. Daenerys faces Varys (Finally)
While you would think this is something that should have happened when Varys joined #teamDany, alas, she decided to wait until she made it to Dragonstone. Not that I really blame her, to be honest, I wouldn’t have wanted to jinx anything either. Now, before I start off with this particular post, I want everyone to know that Dany is my favorite character. Nothing this girl can do will make me dislike her.
So even though this chat with Varys should have gone on months ago, I just shrugged and went along with it. Dany made some good points. Why should she trust Varys when he’s one of the characters that is notorious for going from house to house for allegiance. In fact, in going House to House, we know that he’s always, in the back, for House Lannister. It’s that kind of trouble that can get you all Dracarys’d on up.
Varys pleads that he will not give her blind loyalty, but believes she is the last hope. She asks him to swear to give her counsel when she is wrong. However, if she finds out he’s been disloyal, she’ll have him burned to death.
Totally doesn’t seem like an overreaction to me.
Especially when you consider that she welcomes Melisandre in with open arms just a couple of scenes later when she calls Dany The Prince(ss) that was Promised.
