In the second episode of Game of Thrones’ “The Game Revealed,” we see just what into Sam healing Jorah, as well as the epic Greyjoy sea battle.

Game of Thrones season 7 is over, but HBO isn’t going to let that stop us from getting our weekly fix. Airing on HBO NOW and HBO GO, The Game Revealed goes behind the scenes of each episode of Game of Thrones season 7. This week, we get a look at what went into making episode 702, “Stormborn.”

First up, Sam heals Jorah Mormont’s greyscale, despite being told not to do so by Maester Ebrose (Jim Broadbent).

While that was a gory scene when it was shown during the episode, it was actor Iain Glen who sold the scene, and he did it without saying a word. It wasn’t all Glen’s acting that had to make that scene, however, as a prosthetics wizard Barrie Gower and his team meticulously placing the greyscale on half of Glen’s body. The result was horrifying to look upon, and the cutting away of the greyscale, during the episode, was not for the faint of heart and stomach, but it came through wonderfully on-screen.

The other video shared by the official YouTube page for Game of Thrones was the sea battle between the Greyjoy fleets.

Showrunner Dan Weiss aptly calls Euron Greyjoy’s ship — The Silence — a big “F*ck you boat.”

The masterful use of CGI and real-time set pieces is amazing. And, the battle itself, filmed with walls of green screen completely surrounding the ships, enabled the film crew to get 360-degree shots at all times during filming.

However, just like with Jorah Mormont having his greyscale removed by Sam, it was the actors who made it work. From Theon’s (Alfie Allen) face when his PTSD kicked in, to Yara (Gemme Whelan) shedding a single tear, that one moment, amidst all the blood and fire and violence, completely sold the scene.
