Former Game of Thrones star Jason Momoa made a joke about raping women in 2011
As news of Harvey Weinstein’s decades-long sexual assault toward women in his former company and actresses in Hollywood continues to come to light, a comment from a former Game of Thrones star is trending…and not in a good way.
Actor Jason Momoa might be preparing to star in next month’s Justice League movie as DC hero Aquaman, but in 2011, the star portrayed Khal Drogo in the first season of Game of Thrones. In that season, Momoa’s character married then raped a young Daenerys Targaryen.
During the 2011 San Diego Comic Con, Momoa was asked what he loved about working in the fantasy genre, and his answer has now come back to haunt him.
That’s right, Jason Momoa, a man who possibly millions of kids will look up to as a DC superhero, said he liked working in the fantasy genre because he gets to “rape beautiful women.” I wonder how his co-star Gal Gadot (Wonder Woman) feels about that comment.
As horrible as this comment is, it is only fair to point out that Momoa seemed to be joking around and does seem to realize he put his foot in his mouth. Although, that in no way excuses what he said. This is just proof that no matter how long ago you say something, no matter what kind of changes you’ve made personally, once the internet has it, it lasts forever.
With Harvey Weinstein rightfully being torn down bit by bit for his sexual atrocities toward women, stars like Jason Momoa — who is about to become a huge movie star — need to take a stand against this disgusting behavior.
