10. The Office – “Halloween”
“Halloween,” wasn’t a game-changer for The Office but it still accented all of the best parts of the show. Starting off one of its best seasons, the series had a big ratings boost for this holiday special. Of course, one of the main storylines was Jim pranking Dwight so who wouldn’t want to watch? This time he posts Dwight’s resume on the internet to try and get him interviews with different companies. When Cumberland Mills reaches out, Jim pretends to be Michael in order to give his office mate a glowing recommendation that is ruined by Dwight arguing over the importance of some things on his resume. It’s a pretty typical Dwight/Jim exchange but their pranks are always a delight to watch. Meanwhile Jim makes a little movement on his relationship with Pam when she suggest he take the job instead. At first this leaves him hurt because he thinks she doesn’t care if he goes, but she clears that up by the end of the episode.
The biggest story arc is that Michael finally fires someone. It was a threat that had loomed over the entire office since the first season, so it was nice to finally get some closure on that storyline. Popular director, Paul Feig, actually directs the episode and he seems to know his way around Halloween episodes because he also did the Freaks and Geeks one as well. With a talented director at the helm, “Halloween” has all the ingredients for a great episode of The Office.
