Spencer Monroe was a terrible person for most of his time on The Walking Dead. The son of the leaders in Alexandria, he seemed entitled, selfish, and cowardly – a similar trait to his brother Aiden.

Aiden was antagonistic against Rick from the very beginning. While everyone tried to make it work, Aiden proved from the very start that he was only out for himself. While his parents, Deanna and Reg, worked hard to build a community, Aiden seemed to just look out for himself until he slightly redeemed himself by allowing walkers to kill him to save Glenn, Nicholas and Noah.

However, the death of Aiden set his brother Spencer on a dark path to his fate. Spencer could never fit in, especially after the death of his parents. He had a few heroic moments, but his end came when he tried to betray everyone.

In the episode “Hearts Still Beating,” Spencer tried to sell out Rick to Negan. While Rick is out gathering supplies for Negan to save Alexandria, Spencer offers to betray Rick if Negan will name him the new leader of Alexandria. This is when Negan says that Rick has guts but Spencer does not, before driving a knife into his gut and killing him.
