Deanna Monroe and her husband Reg had done an amazing job in building the Alexandria society and keeping them safe until Rick came along. Deanne was the leader in Alexandria, an interesting change since it was Reg who served as the leader in The Walking Dead comic books. A former U.S. Congresswoman, she used her natural leadership skills to keep her town in line.

However, when Rick arrived in town, she realized that there was still something missing. Rick had the power to keep people under control as safe, something the town lacked. She made Rick the constable in the town and that ended up leading to her downfall.

It started with Rick wanted to save Jessie from an abusive husband. However, his attempts to deal with this led to the death of Reg and Deanne started to lose her will to lead. Finally, when the walkers crashed into town, things went from bad to worse.

Deanne was injured while helping Rick battle zombies but she realizes at this point that she is a hindrance. When the survivors realize that a walker bit Deanne, they take her to her bedroom to rest in peace. Finally, she tells them to leave her and then she takes one of the most heroic stands possible, firing her gun into the oncoming walkers and going out in a blaze of glory.
