Grading Fall Television’s Hits And Misses

Arrowverse — B
It’s hard to grade the Arrowverse as a whole when the shows have been so inconsistent throughout this fall season. Let’s start with the flagship show: Arrow. For the first time in the show’s history, it is in danger of being cancelled. After a fantastic finale last year, the show squandered that momentum with a terrible premiere.
With the ratings plummeting, Arrow needs to figure out a way to save their show now that The CW needs to cancel something. The second show from the universe, The Flash, has attempted to return to its roots by shedding the angst of recent years. While this has been a vast improvement, it also highlights how the show has yet to fix the long-running mistakes: the poorly written female characters. Legends of Tomorrow has continued its hot streak after last year but the loss of two main characters leaves a gaping hole in the series’s roster. Supergirl has been the only one of the Arrowverse shows to have a vast improvement and has easily cemented its place in superhero history.
Thankfully, all series had a massive boost from the four show crossover. “Crisis On Earth-X,” is the most ambitious event in television history and ones of the most entertaining the year. Melissa Benoist has emerged as a new face for the Arrowverse shows and her acting in the crossover and her show seems ready to shoulder the weight of being the best show in their universe. A staple of fall on The CW, it’ll be interesting to see what the network does if it loses one of its shows.
