This Is Us — A+

The show that took over millions of America’s hearts and helped the tissue industry out immensely. Despite the second season bringing on the continual pain to all of the characters, the series has still managed to reign on Tuesday nights. This Is Us has been a little soap opera like but the acting has been incredible throughout the season. With a group of episodes dedicated to each of the Big Three, characters like Kevin and Kate have gotten some much-needed character development. Meanwhile, Rebecca gets to play the role of supportive mother other than the “bad parent” to Jack’s loving “fun” one. Randall continues to shine as the best Pearson, mainly because the writing is better and Sterling K. Brown consistently delivers powerhouse performances.

Kevin’s episode, “Number One,” is definitely the highlight of the season and maybe even the series. His ongoing fight against opioid addiction is a storyline that many viewers can relate to during a time that overprescription has become a massive problem.

Justin Hartley has more than earned his Emmy nomination with one of the most moving scenes of the year. When he cries out for help on the lawn of a one-night-stand, it’s a heartbreaking collapse of a usually confident character. In the meantime, Randall and Kate get equally sad storylines but it’s hard watching everyone overlook Kevin’s ongoing struggles. He pushes his entire family away, and they allow him because it’s easier than digging deeper. Still, the show is a massive win for NBC with those huge ratings pouring in.
