Kevin (Probably) Saves The World — F
Jason Ritter can’t save this unusual comedy about a down on his luck slacker who becomes an entity for good. He becomes a “righteous soul,” the last of thirty six who used to live on the earth. After a failed suicide attempt he has to move into his sister’s house alongside his niece and neither are very excited at his new house guest.
However, he gets a new friend in the form of Yvette, a guardian angel/guide who only Jason Ritter’s poor Kevin can see. With all of these weird visions, he tries to help everyone in his life to have a better time. Despite this holy intervention, Kevin continues to mess things up especially with his sister. It’s hard to root for a family that seems to be working as just an antagonist against Kevin’s growth.
Unfortunately, the show never lived up to the spiritual or family themes it promised, thus leaving viewers with an empty feeling. The numbers dropped off by over fifty percent, which all but confirmed ABC’s decision to not order more episodes. While it would have been nice to see Ritter succeed on his own show, he deserved better than this boring series.
Hopefully he’ll get another chance to lead his own show and Kevin (Probably) Saves The World remains buried with the rest of the series that only make it to one season. Also Kimberly Hebert Gregory was fantastic on Vice Principals and needs a role where she can be just as fun as she was on that show.
