Big Littles Lies — 1×07: “You Get What You Need”
The HBO’s limited series was another of 2017’s overwhelming success, as proved again when it swiped no less than four out of the six trophies it was running for at the Golden Globes.
Episode 7 is the season finale and, as such, did not fail to bring answers to all our questions.
Big Little Lies starts with a crime scene being investigated and sways between interrogation scenes and flashbacks. The series gives us a masterclass in storytelling, and the seventh episode, as such, is the conclusion to a long-built narration.
Thus, the viewer who went through six episodes of background setting and elaborated plot construction, starts the final episode eager for answers and for each protagonist’s personal subplot to be resolved (personally, I was just as anxious about finding out who was bullying Anabella than I was to know who had killed whom, but hey that’s just me.)
The finale is also the culminating encounter of all the characters which inexorably leads to a fatal outcome (as announced from episode 1).
Big Little Lies is also a story about keeping secrets behind closed doors, and it seems evident that the finale could only be the disclosure of those secrets out in the open.
Obviously, it was no surprise that the first season concluded with the protagonists being tied with one common secret. The biggest of them all. And leaves the audience impatient to find out how it will unfold next in the new season.
Big Little Lies will return in 2019 on HBO. And if you haven’t given it a try yet, check out the five reasons that could convince you to hop on the train.
