11. The Looming Tower (Hulu) – February 28

Hulu has a lot of exciting series coming out this year and The Looming Tower is one of the ones to look out for. Set in the late 90’s, the show follows the rising tension between the CIA and FBI as well as their inability to share information.

Based on the novel by Lawrence Wright, the story will follow the rise of Osama Bin-Laden and whether the refusal to share information might have paved the path to 9/11. It will follow the counter-terrorism units within both divisions of the government as they try to track down as much intel as possible. While this isn’t the story most people expected when it comes to the government during the 1990’s and early 2000’s but it’s an important one.

Tahar Rahim will play the Lebanese-American FBI agent Ali Soufan and John O’Neill will be one of his coworkers in the counter-terrorism unit. The Looming Tower will probably not appeal to every viewer but it will definitely intrigue history buffs and those who want to see an interesting series about complex motivations.

Since the show will take a focus on counter-terrorism, it feels like the series has the potential to be a more realistic 24. Since the successful Jack Bauer franchise won’t be continuing for 2018, let The Looming Tower fill that hole the show left in one’s heart. The series will also tackle an important part of American history that has often been overlooked and earns a spot as one of the new shows to look forward to in 2018.
