20 New TV Shows To Look Forward To In 2018
9. Hard Sun (Hulu) – March 7
A collaboration between Hulu and BBC One, Hard Sun, is going to be a pre-apocalyptic drama rather than one that is set after the world-ending event. Created by one of the masterminds behind Luthor, the show will undoubtedly have a focus on complex characters.
Similar to that series, the show will explore the different moralities of two different police officers. Another interesting fact about Hard Sun is that it has a solid expiration date: five years. While many shows suffer from fatigue heading into later seasons, Neil Cross confirms that he has planned out the series until the apocalyptic event, because he doesn’t see the show continuing in a post-apocalyptic world.
Jim Sturgess, last seen on television for AMC’s Feed the Beast, takes on the role of Detective Chief Inspector Charlie Hicks who is described as a likable family man. He’s committed to his job and beloved by almost everyone, except he does have one major character flaw: he’s corrupt.
Starring opposite of him is Agyness Deyn as Detective Inspector Elaine Renko. She couldn’t be less like Hicks, considering her reputation for being difficult to work with and morally incorruptible. Of course, if they’re going to save the world and themselves, the two will need to work together despite their apprehensions.
With Hulu’s strong ability to pick out high-quality pilots, Hard Sun is definitely a series to catch in 2018. Since it’s unclear when and for how long Luthor will continue, Hard Suns can become the new series to hold fans over.
