7. Trust (FX) – March 25

An anthology series not produced by Ryan Murphy, Trust will explore the infamous Getty kidnapping in more detail. Fans of All the Money in the World will get to dive deeper into the controversy regarding John Paul Getty’s abduction. For those who are unaware of the historical event, John Paul Getty III was the grandson of J. Paul Getty and the heir to the Getty Oil fortune.

When he was sixteen he was kidnapped in Rome and held for a ransom that his grandfather refused to pay. The case became an international sensation, with the family begging for the boy’s safe return while the patriarch steadfastly refused to give in to the demands. Most likely, the FX series will continue to explore the family dynamics and the long-term effects that this traumatic experience had on the boy growing up.

Trust has assembled an All-Star cast to retell the kidnapping story. Donald Sutherland is tasked with playing the family patriarch: J. Paul Getty. Hilary Swank and Michael Esper will play the desperate parents who want their son back. Brendan Fraser will be trying to showcase his dramatic chops as Getty employee, James Fletcher Chace, who is attempting to track the boy down on his own.

FX has found a lot of success doing anthology series like American Crime and American Horror Story, and Trust seems like it will be a good addition to the bunch. Whether true crime fans will prefer this to the movie is unclear, but it’s definitely one of the most anticipated anthology series of 2018.
