6. Barry (HBO) – March 25

Bill Hader joins the ranks of exciting new dark comedies of 2018 with his new HBO show Barry. Telling the story of a low-cost hitman who is meandering through life before stumbling upon a theater group in Los Angeles, HBO is definitely unique.

The series will definitely resonate with a lot of people (minus the killing) because it’s about a man who is dissatisfied with his life and struggling with his loneliness. It’s definitely a storyline that many people relate to, especially with the number of shows that try to tackle the same themes. However, Barry sets itself apart by it’s ridiculous but delightful premise.

Ever since his days on SNL, Hader has continuously proven himself to be comedic gold. Yet the film, The Skeleton Twins truly showcases his ability to be a tortured leading man while handling some of the darker comedic scenes. His long resume should be enough to convince fans to give Barry a real chance despite the wacky premise.

Costarring is Henry Winkler and Stephen Root, two hilarious actors who will definitely bring a lot to the series. Not to mention, who doesn’t want to see a hitman fall in love with community theater? It’s reminiscent of Orphan Black, and it seems like the kind of show that fans of any genre can get on board with. HBO has a lot of series that to look forward to in 2018, but Barry definitely stands out as one of the best shows to check out.
