2. Killing Eve (BBC America) – April 8

Sandra Oh has come a long way since playing Christina on Grey’s Anatomy, now the upcoming star of a spy thriller for BBC. The network is touting the strong female cast and creative team to help fill the hole that Orphan Black left behind. Based on the novel series by Luke Jennings, Killing Eve will be a cat-and-mouse game between an M15 desk agent and a crafty killer who is desperate to maintain her freedom.

This 2018 series has the potential to carve a name for itself in the landscape of spy thrillers. It’s exceedingly rare to see two female leads in a television show, especially an action based one and BBC knows that they’re taking a step in the right direction.

Oh is playing the bored desk agent who gets pulled in over her head to deal with the looming threat of a killer. However, she’s calculating and quick on her feet which will make her a strong competitor in this game. Jodie Comer from The White Princess plays Villanelle, the killer with nothing to lose.

The series has an equally strong supporting cast comprised of Fiona Shaw (True Blood), David Haig (Downward Dog), and Kim Bodnia (The Bridge). While the show seems like a thriller, Killing Eve will defy expectations by including some dark humor as well. This is to be expected since Phoebe Waller-Bridge adapted the series from the novel, and she is the creative genius behind Amazon’s underrated Fleabag. It definitely seems like the perfect show to check out this 2018.
