12. Good Girls (NBC) – February 26

Before Ocean’s 8 hits theaters, NBC has their own female heist show hitting the small screen this February. Good Girls has an all-star cast, maybe even one of the best on television. The series follows a group of women who have fallen down on their luck and need a get-rich-quick scheme to solve their troubles.

Naturally, they plan a one-time robbery with the hopes of getting their problems to go away by throwing money at it. Unfortunately, things don’t go as planned when one of the women is recognized by the manager of the store they rob. Things become even more complicated when it turns out that money isn’t the main reason that the manager has a problem with the group of girls.

Christina Hendricks (Mad Men) is a single mother drowning in debt who leads the charge as a robber. She’s flanked by Mae Whitman (Parenthood) a young single mother fighting for custody, and Retta (Parks and Recreation). Matthew Lillard (Twin Peaks: The Revival), Reno Wilson (Mike & Molly), and Manny Montana (Graceland) round out this near perfect ensemble.

The show is being billed as a drama but Jenna Bans, the creator/writer, has expertly infused some comedy into the premise. Bans is most famous for being part of the Shondaland writing team and her own series The Family. With a lot of veteran television experience under her belt, Bans is capable hands to leave a show in. 2018 is the year for strong but flawed protagonists, and Good Girls is a perfect showcase for that.
