Netflix has become a powerhouse when it comes to original series, and arguably their most successful original series to date is the fantasy TV series Stranger Things. Created by The Duffer Brothers, Stranger Things is a love letter to the ’80s, with a little Steven Spielberg mixed in with a little Stephen King.

In the series, a group of children set out to discover the secret behind the disappearance of one of their best friends. Along the way, they meet a girl that possesses psychokinetic abilities and a connection to the mysterious Upside Down, the location where their friend was taken and where a frightening monster lives as well.

Wynona Rider stars as the grief-stricken mother of the missing child while David Harbour is the alcoholic police chief of the small town. Matthew Modine also stars as one of the antagonists of the series. However, the real MVPs are the kids, who carry this series to great heights and were wholly responsible for the critical accolades, including 18 Primetime Emmy nominations.

Since this was a Netflix original series, it all hit at once and became one of the top binge-watched series of all-time, with a reported 14 million adults watching the series in the first 35 days it was live. A second season aired and The Duffer Brothers say that they expect four or five seasons to tell the entire story.
