11. Outlander

Few shows on television today have built such an interesting fan base as Outlander, possibly the most shipped series on TV. This Starz fantasy TV series is a time travel tale that also mises as a historical melodrama.

Based on the Diana Gabaldon historical fantasy novels and short stories, Outlander tells the story of a nurse named Claire Randall (Caitriona Balfe) at the start of World War II who ends up sent back in time to 1743 Scotland. While in the past, she meets her husband’s evil ancestor and falls in love with a Highland warrior named Jamie Fraser (Sam Heughan).

The TV show takes Claire through this whirlwind romance as the rebel Highlanders prepare for war against the redcoats. The entire series is a fantasy melodrama as she ends up going back to her time and her husband with the revelation that her true love is alive 200 years in the past and she is pregnant with his daughter.

The series is still ongoing, with three seasons complete and a fourth ordered as well based on the novel Drums of Autumn. As of press time, there have been 42 episodes, which each season averaging less than 15 episodes each.
