Westworld season 2 trailer to air during the Super Bowl
Get ready for a thrilling Westworld season 2 trailer which will air at some point during the Super Bowl this Sunday night.
HBO is set to air its first Super Bowl commercial in 20 years, this Sunday when the season 2 trailer for Westworld will play before a massive audience on NBC. According to Entertainment Weekly, the ad was directed by the co-creator of Westworld, Jonathan Nolan, partly using footage that is exclusive to the trailer.
HBO has purchased ad time during the Super Bowl only twice before: 1997 and 1998, and they were commercials for HBO in general, not a specific show. There are two factors that have us excited for this full-length trailer for Westworld season 2, and one has to do with the price of each ad.
NBC is charging a hefty $5 million per 30 seconds of airtime, and if this is truly going to be a full-length trailer, we’re probably looking at a two and a half minute trailer, costing HBO upwards of $25 million. For reference, the San Diego Comic-Con trailer was 1:49 in length. Here’s that:
EW recently revealed an exclusive photo of Bernard (Jeffrey Wright) with an odd, hulked-out humanoid figure behind him.
Even though HBO has yet to confirm when season 2 of the breakout hit will air, we’ve seen stars from the show tweet and Instagram some pretty specific things; specifically, April. Fans should expect a premiere date and time to show up at the end of the trailer, which is par for the course for HBO.
Next: Westworld: but why are the hosts naked, by the way?
One last note: The second thing that has excited for this trailer is that production on Westworld season 2 has already wrapped, so Nolan will have had an entire season worth of footage to use for this special Super Bowl trailer. Stay tuned!
