3. David Harbour’s Tide Ads
This wasn’t just one Super Bowl commercial this year but was instead a number of them running through the night. David Harbour (Stranger Things) starred in each of the commercials for Tide laundry detergent but none of the commercials seemed to be about Tide.
Instead, all the ads had Harbour appearing to advertise for some other product or service. One of the Super Bowl commercials (the one posted above) adds a little bit of everything, from a Matthew McConaughey influenced car commercial, beer ad, insurance commercial, jewelry store commercial, and more, with Harbour interrupting every chance he gets to tell people it is a Tide ad.
The punch line at the end has Harbour asking if every Super Bowl commercial is a Tide ad, and he reveals he thinks it does.
Later, there were other commercials, such as a spoof of the Old Spice commercial with the shirtless man on the beach holding a bottle of Tide. This was easily the best running joke through the night of commercials.
