3. Archer

In 2009, FX introduced an adult cartoon based in the world of secret agents and made sure to make the themes and situations as adult-oriented as possible, ensuring that Archer remained the sole possession of adults looking for something funny and risque, but animated. To sell the idea, imagine if James Bond was even more over-the-top, arrogant and sex hungry.

Sterling Archer is a secret agent, one of the best in the world. Instead of working for the government, he works for a private organization owned by his mother, Malory Archer. Other characters include the bombshell secret agent Lana Kane, and agency employees  Cheryl, Pam, Ray, Cyrill and Dr. Algernop Krieger.

The cartoon is often episodic in nature, with one example being when Sterling fell in love with a Russian agent who wanted to defect and then went into a deep depression when she died. This lasted numerous episodes, and the humor and action were purely based on the story of Sterling falling in love and then going on a self-destructive tear. The humor in all the episodes is adult-only, with alcohol abuse, sexual escapades, sadomasochism, torture, and other sensitive topics up front and center.

Archer seems to know no bounds. The voice acting is spectacular, and there is a chance this never would be as funny without the particular voice cast on board, but the stories just deliver the best humor since Arrested Development. Most fans can find Archer on Netflix, and if there is one binge-worthy adult cartoon to seek out, this is it.
