22. Robot Chicken

Seth Green (Buffy the Vampire Slayer) and Matthew Senreich joined forces to start their own production company Stoopid Monkey. The duos most significant hit was an adult cartoon that debuted on Adult Swim in 2005 called Robot Chicken. The premise of the show was brilliant in its simplicity. The two took classic action figures and put them into stop-motion animated shorts where they did the most inappropriate things possible.

Robot Chicken made fun of everything, from movies and television to popular culture and news briefs. They used everything from action figures from Super FreindsG.I. Joe and He-Man and the Masters of the Universe to toys, Barbie dolls, and even claymation when the story called for it. Whether Robot Chicken mocked Optimus Prime using a classic Transformers toy or Stretch Armstrong, or even brilliant mixing and matching of different series, this adult cartoon skewered everything in its path.

The show was so popular that Robot Chicken attracted big-name actors to come in and voice different characters. They released Star Wars specific episodes with Mark Hamill, George Lucas, Ahmed Best and Billy Dee Williams coming in to voice characters.

While Robot Chicken has parodied everything from Star WarsStrawberry Shortcake and Scooby-Doo to The Smurfs, Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles and ThunderCats, they haven’t run out of material yet. The ninth season debuted in December 2017, and there have been 165 episodes and 11 specials to date.
