Episode Two

The mystery here takes a slow burn avenue, allowing some unrelated issues and relationships to find a voice in between major plot points. Jane is struggling with being an openly gay female vicar, receiving criticism from the closeted gay bishop. Is her relationship with Linh or her calling more important?

David struggles with the needy, irresponsible, manipulative Karen, torn by his feelings of responsibility and love for his daughter (played by John Simm’s real-life daughter Molly). He also struggles to stay loyal to his party, whose policies he finds increasingly distasteful. Sandrine Shaw struggles with PTSD, bereavement, and is a victim of sexual harassment.

While Nathan Bilk (Nathaniel Martello-White) investigates Regal Pizza, Laurie goes missing from work to seek religious counsel from Jane. The police search her room and find £1000 stashed away. Nathan follows Mikey to Karen’s house and finds out he’s delivering drugs with the pizzas. Laurie almost leaves town, but can’t leave her sick mother alone. She is killed on her way home.

Abdullah’s sisters, Fatima and Mona, are moved to an immigrant holding facility, further alienating them from Glaspie. Sam Spence (John Heffernan) from MI-5 and Nathan join Glaspie to interview them. Fatima says that Abdullah had papers proving who the immigrant smugglers were and that they were English.

Meanwhile, Sandrine gets nervous she shot the wrong target and calls her employer, Peter Westbourne (Richard McCabe), to check. Tim Dyson, her pervy CO, breaks into her desk and steals her phone, using it as blackmail to have sex with her.
