Archer: Danger Island coming back in April with ninth season
By Shawn Lealos
Archer is coming back to FXX this April for another time-twisting tale with Archer: Danger Island.
For fans of Archer who might have fallen behind, the eighth season of Archer saw the dysfunctional former secret agent in a coma, and that caused the entire season to take place in the mind of Sterling Archer — a 1947 Noir setting titled Archer: Dreamland.
The eighth season of Archer keeps the idea of self-contained stories set in the mind of Sterling Archer — who is still in a coma. This time the action moves to the late 1930’s and re-imagines Archer as a semi-functioning alcoholic seaplane pilot.
Here is how the characters are re-imagined for the new season – Archer: Danger Island.
- Sterling Archer (H. Jon Benjamin) is the hard-drinking pilot.
- Malory Archer (Jessica Walter) is Archer’s acid-tongued mother and hotel owner
- Lana (Aisha Tyler) is now Princess Lanaluakalani – island royalty and local revolutionary
- Cheryl (Judy Greer) is now the abandoned heiress, Charlotte Vandertunt
- Cyrill (Chris Parnell) is the obvious German spy posing as a businessman, Siegbert Fuchs
- Pamela (Amber Nash) is Archer’s co-pilot and loyal sidekick, Pam Poovey
- Raymond (Adam Reed) is impeccably uniformed French Capitaine, Reynaud
- Dr. Krieger (Lucky Yates) is the audacious scarlet macaw, Crackers
Archer: Danger Island synopsis
According to the synopsis, Archer: Danger Island is about Sterling Archer, the alcoholic seaplane pilot who is on a lush South Pacific island in 1939 while the rest of the world is concerned about the upcoming World War II. Archer, however, is only concerned with who might be buying him his next drink.
However, all is not safe for Sterling Archer, who still has to deal with cannibals, pirates, super-intelligent monkeys and quicksand.
The big news is that Archer: Danger Island is the penultimate season for the popular animated series. In a 2016 interview with creator Adam Reed, the creator said that the tenth season of Archer would be the final episode of the series.
"“The plan is to end ‘Archer’ after Season 10,” Reed said. “I don’t know that anybody has talked about that, but that is definitely my plan, is to do eight, nine, and 10 — and they’re gonna be each shorter seasons of just eight episodes — and then wind it up.”"

Reed also said that the final three seasons of Archer would be different than anything that came before, and the eighth and ninth season proves that point.
Archer: Danger Island returns on April 25 to FXX and will air on Wednesdays at 10 p.m. EST. Archer: Dreamland comes out on DVD on March 20.
