‘Power’ on Starz: Season 5 gets a premiere date and early renewal for Season 6
The hype surrounding Season 5 of Power is pretty intense and with an early renewal from Starz, fans need to get ready for an epic storyline.
Starz just announced the premiere date for Season 5 of Power and shared some surprising news with fans of the show. After the way that the previous season ended — with Ghost (Omari Hardwick) and Tommy (Joseph Sikora) teaming up with Kanan (50 Cent) — we know that things are about to get pretty intense.
Apparently, Starz knows that this premium cable hit has only been getting better with each new season and opted to renew Season 6 early and announce a new directorial debut.
“As ‘Power’ wraps production on season five, we want to acknowledge and thank our spectacular ‘Power’ team for producing another great season,” said Starz President of Programming Carmi Zlotnik. “We are also pleased to announce a pick-up for season six.”
In addition to learning that Season 6 will be happening, it was also announced that Curtis Jackson aka 50 Cent, who is an executive producer for Power, will also be making his directorial debut on the Season 6 premiere episode. This new move makes Jackson a triple-threat as he now will have co-executive produced, directed and acted in the series.
Other executive producers for the New York-based crime series are Courtney Kemp, Mark Canton, Randall Emmett, Gary Lennon and Shana Stein. Power was ranked in the top three Sunday night premium cable series’ for nine out of the 10 episodes aired last season.
The Starz series also recently won three 2018 NAACP Image Awards including “Outstanding Drama Series” and “Outstanding Actor in a Drama Series,” and a 2017 People’s Choice Award for “Favorite Premium Drama Series.”

Currently, Power is the network’s most-watched hit with an average of 9.3 million viewers turning in for each episode in Season 4. This is likely why Starz opted to renew the megahit four months before the new season even premieres.
Season 5 of Power will premiere on Sunday, July 1 on Starz at 9/8 central.
