One of the best novels of 2017 is getting the Hulu treatment, as Hulu has picked up the rights to the Celeste Ng novel Little Fires Everywhere.

Celest Ng, who previously won Amazon’s Book of the Year award for her debut novel Everything I Never Told You in 2014 followed that book up in 2017 with Little Fires Everywhere, which was listed on many “Best Of” lists for last year, winning the Goodreads award for Best Fiction Book of 2017.

The novel tells the story of two families in Shaker Heights in Cleveland during the ’90s. Everything in Shaker Heights is planned out carefully, with Elena Richardson leading the way. When Mia Warren and her daughter move into the neighborhood, things start to change — much to the chagrin of the community.

The plot then introduces a friend of the Richardsons who tries to adopt a Chinese-American family, a move that splits the neighborhood in half and puts Elena and Mia on separate sides of the issue.

Ng, an Asian-American author, grew up in Shaker Heights, making Little Fires Everywhere a personal book for the author. Now, the author will get to see how the story plays out because The Hollywood Reporter reported that it is coming to Hulu.

Reese Witherspoon (Big Little Lies), who most recently appeared in the fantastic Disney movie A Wrinkle In Time, picked up the rights to the novel before it was published. She then teamed with actress Kerry Washington (Scandal) and they brought on Liz Tigelaar (Bates Motel, Revenge) to work as showrunner for the series.

Celeste Ng will be a producer, as will Witherspoon. While the casting has yet to be determined, it is assumed that Kerry Washington will play either Mia or Elena. There is no word on whether Witherspoon will add a role to her plate in the Little Fires Everywhere series on top of her producing hat.
