9-1-1 recap: A Whole New You
By Ariba Bhuvad
As season one closes out, the characters of 9-1-1 look ahead to the future.
That was one hell of a first season, right? 9-1-1 defied expectations with its inaugural season and set the stage for its already-renewed second season.
This week’s finale episode focused on each character’s journey and left them looking to the future for new changes and situations. Much of it continued to be an emotional, thrilling rollercoaster of emotions as the entire has been.
Last week’s episode left off with Abby’s mother passing away and this week Abby faced a life without her. After having spent so much of her life caring for her mother, Abby felt lost and confused without her. Buck and Carla help her get the apartment back in shape as they moved out all of her mother’s belongings.
In those belongings, she finds her mother’s passport and realizes her mother never really traveled anywhere–besides Cabo. At the end of the episode, she tells Buck she needs to get away to find herself and heads off to Ireland–just as her mother always wanted.
Athena answers a call where a husband and wife both call 9-1-1, the wife reports the husband won’t leave her alone and the husband calls stating his concern for his wife. When the team arrives, the wife is speaking in a British accent, and the husband claims she is from Brooklyn. Given her condition and constant hiccups, Athena puts together that the woman is on the verge of having a stroke, which would explain her erratic behavior.
In cute and adorable news, Bobby decides he is going to starting dating and starts to take selfies and create an online dating profile. The moment is interrupted when the team gets called in for a brutal motorcycle accident that has split the man involved literally into two pieces. Bobby gets extremely flustered by the sight of it and by listening to the man speak to his son for the last time.
Athena comes to comfort him and says it’s all part of their job. Bobby asks Athena to come to church with him where the two pray together and reflect on their lives. The cutest part about all of this? At the end of the episode, Bobby is nervously getting ready for a date. While he’s waiting for his date to arrive, the camera shifts to focus on–Athena. Yes, Athena! We can’t wait to see where this story goes next season!
There were a couple bizarre moments in the season one finale, namely a call where a man presumed dead is taking to the morgue, only for the coroner to learn the guy suffers from paralysis and is alive! Dealing with the undead guy, Hen realizes she still needs to mend her relationship with Karen and decides to confront her. Although we think she did not succeed in convincing Karen to come, she shows up on her doorstep, willing to give Hen one more chance.
Buck did not have it easy in the season finale because not only did Abby eventually decide to leave for a while but he became a pawn in a catfishing scheme. When a number of random girls approached him about ghosting him, Chimney decided to figure out what was going on. He stumbles across a MySpace page that appears to be Buck’s.

Using the IP address to locate the person behind it, Buck and Chimney enter a trailer home only to learn the guy inside has been dead for days. This goes on to be one hell of a disturbing scene with a bloated dead body full of gas and lots, lots of interesting colored guck inside of him.
Even though he used Buck’s identity to screw around with girls, Buck wanted to give the guy dignity in his death and felt bad he had to pretend to be someone else because his own life wasn’t that great.
All in all, season one of 9-1-1 was epic and defied expectations of anyone that sat down to watch it. There were emotions, terror, fear, excitement, and thrill all wrapped into ten episodes. It will be interesting to see where the story progresses to when season two begins.
