Fast and Furious to Get Animated for Netflix
An animated spinoff based on the Fast and Furious franchise is set to stream on Netflix.
With eight movies and counting, The Fast and The Furious franchise shows no signs of slowing down on the big screen. Now it’s set to race onto streaming as well, in the form of an animated series for Netflix.
CinemaBlend reports that Netflix is partnering with Dreamworks Animation to produce the as-yet-untitled spinoff.
The series will focus on Tony Toretto, the teenage cousin of franchise star Vin Diesel’s Dom Toretto. Like his cousin, Tony and his crew are involved in the world of underground car racing.
They are recruited by a government agency to infiltrate and stop a nefarious crime organization. Clearly, their car racing skills will be key to fulfilling their mission.
Netflix has already released a still from the series that shows cars cruising through the air. It looks like exactly the kind of action fans of the franchise have come to expect. You can take a look at the image here.
The series will have some serious producing muscle behind it. Big players from both Dreamworks Animation and the Fast and Furious franchise are involved, including Vin Diesel as an executive producer.

Diesel’s well-known for his voice acting, especially for his role as Groot in The Guardians of the Galaxy movies. But there’s no word yet on whether he’ll do any voice work as his Fast and Furious character for the animated series.
No premiere date for the spinoff was announced.
