Stop the presses! The New York Times’ reporting will soon hit TV in the narrative news series, The Weekly.

According to The Hollywood Reporter, cable network FX scored the first-run North American rights to the half-hour show. The series will be based on The New York Times‘ podcast The Daily.

Streaming rights to the series went to Hulu, which will provide access to new episodes of the show the day after they air on FX.

The Weekly represents FX’s first foray into weekly news and The New York Times first foray into television. It will be produced by The Times and Left/Right.

More from FX

The series is described as a narrative documentary that will give viewers a behind-the-scenes look at New York Times journalists as they break and report on one or two of the week’s most important stories. It will follow as a similar format to The Daily podcast. But unlike the podcast, which is hosted by Michael Barbaro, the TV series won’t have a host.

FX has committed to at least 30 episodes. The Weekly should premiere later in 2018.

FX and The New York Times make an interesting pairing, as news isn’t the first thing FX brings to mind. In recent years, the network has mostly been Known for prestige series like The Americans, Fargo, and Atlanta.

However, the country’s divisive politics has brought a renewed focus to the value of rigorous journalism. And the ability of the fourth estate to unearth facts and place checks on the powerful has inspired several projects about reporting the news. These include Follow This,  a weekly Netflix series premiering in July that will feature Buzzfeed journalists.

In a statement, FX Networks CEO John Landgraf said:

"A free press is vital to the health of our American democracy. The Weekly will give viewers compelling stories about the courage and commitment New York Times journalists bring to seeking out and reporting the truth."

It will be interesting to see if FX viewers will watch The Weekly when it first airs there, or if most of the viewership will come from streaming through Hulu.
