Netflix announces new Guillermo del Toro anthology series!

Netflix has announced that they are partnering up with Guillermo del Toro once again to create a new horror anthology series called 10 After Midnight!
In a report from Deadline, it was revealed Guillermo del Toro will be collaborating with top-tier horror writers to bring the 10 episode series to life. This is the first horror anthology for the streaming giant but another big collaboration.
No one can deny that Guillermo del Toro has a gift for horror, particularly for dark fairy tales like Don’t Be Afraid of the Dark and his award-winning film Pan’s Labyrinth, which focus on ambiance over gore to deliver a fright.

Though his vampire series The Strain was chock full of the gory and gross, I’m personally hoping Netflix’s description of the new series being, “Both equally sophisticated and horrific” means it will be more like his dark fantasy style with haunting visuals that stay with us long after the show is over.
Now that he’s already done vampires, ghosts, and even tooth fairies, so I am intrigued to see what he will dream up next. Whatever he chooses to do, it will no doubt be an original take, even if the topic is one that we’ve seen many times before from other writers and directors.
He has created ghost stories several times, but with each new film, his ghosts have evolved into something unseen before, culminating in Crimson Peak, where the spirits of the murdered writhe about in a gruesome scarlet hue.

Recently, Guillermo del Toro has gained a lot of recognition for his Academy Award-winning film, The Shape of Water. While not exactly a horror film, it did have a fairy-tale like storyline. It seems likely this new anthology series will blend his different styles from all of his projects.
With no release date on record as of yet, I’ll be keeping a close eye on the show’s progress, so check back with us here at Show Snob often for all the latest in 10 After Midnight news!
