Matt Groening reveals first look for Disenchantment
Matt Groenig offers first look teaser for his new animated show Disenchantment.
Disenchantment, Groening’s upcoming animated comedy set to premiere on Netflix, was announced in July 2017. While there has been news in the meantime about casting and premise, there hasn’t been any first look material released until now. Of course, the first look Groening offers hungry fans couldn’t be as simple as that. When Matt Groening gives you a teaser, he takes it literally.
The first look consists of three drastically cropped screenshots, one featuring a light-haired woman wearing a crown, one of a pointy elf hat and the tip of a pointed ear, and the last of a demon’s pointed tail and ears. The caption reads “A princess, an elf, and a demon walk into a bar…” The photos were posted on Disenchantment’s official Twitter page.

Disenchantment is set in a medieval kingdom known as Dreamland. This kingdom is ruled by the heavy drinking Princess Bean with the help of her demon servant Luci and her elven friend Elfo. “Ultimately, Disenchantment will be about life and death, love and sex, and how to keep laughing in a world full of suffering and idiots, despite what the elders and wizards and other jerks tell you,” explained Groening.
The show is set to feature regular cast members from Futurama Billy West, John DiMaggio, Maurice LaMarche, Tress MacNeille, and David Herman. Abbi Jacobson (Broad City) will play Bean, Nat Faxon (Friends From College) is Elfo, and Eric Andre appropriately will play Luci the demon.

Needless to say, this animated show is geared more toward adults in the fashion of Groening’s other shows like The Simpsons and Futurama. Netflix has experienced great success with its other adult animation shows like BoJack Horseman and F is for Family, so Disenchantment should find a solid fanbase when it finally premieres.
