But this project is about as far removed from the stoner comedy as you can get, as the Amazon series will be about financial issues related to global capital. Money Laundering, Cryptocurrency, corruption, are some of the topics the series will explore.
Penn has come a long ways since that first trip to White Castle. Penn has since served as White House Associate Director of Public Engagement for the Obama Administration. Adam McKay can also boast some impressive accomplishments. In 2016, McKay won the Oscar for Best Adapted Screenplay for The Big Short. McKay is best known for directing the Will Ferrell hits Talladega Nights, Step Brothers and Anchorman 2.

The Big Short is in a similar vein of the upcoming Amazon series, as it dramatically depicts issues and events related to the 2007-2008 financial crisis. The movie is based on the nonfiction book The Big Short: Inside the Doomsday Machine. It is similar to Too Big To Fail, which also documented the lead up to the crisis. Except Too Big To Fail focused on the government actors and famous bankers at the heart of the crisis. Too Big To fail has also become an infamous way to refer to the issues related to the crisis.
