Castle Rock, Hulu’s Stephen King horror anthology series, is set to air on July 25, 2018. Based on the trailer and stars, it looks like it’ll be epic!

For years, horror fans have contemplated a show like Castle Rock, which promises to weave together various Stephen King stories. The question is, will it be a success? Based on the trailer, it sounds like a ridiculous question.

Some of the Stars of Castle Rock

Horror TV series and movies can indeed be very successful and can enjoy critical success. One need look no further than 2017’s It — a box office smash. In fact, fans of It should be happy to see Bill Skarsgård return to a Stephen King project (other than It: Chapter 2, scheduled for 2019). In Castle Rock, Skarsgård will play a mysterious jail inmate nicknamed “The Kid,” according to Entertainment Weekly.

Castle Rock will also feature Alan Pangborn — an iconic Sheriff in the King Novels Needful Things and The Dark Half. This time around, Pangborn will be played by Scott Glenn. Horror fans might recognize Glenn as Jack Crawford in the Oscar-winning Silence of the Lambs. If that’s not enough star power, you also have Sissy Spacek. It makes perfect sense for her to appear here, as her breakout role was with Stephen King’s Carrie, back in 1976. Although Spacek will not be acting as Carrie here, her character is sure to be interesting, as an adoptive mother struggling with dementia.

Also, fans of American Horror Story: Roanoke will recognize André Holland as Henry Deaver, a death-row attorney returning to the mysterious town of Castle Rock. As an added complication, Henry Deaver is apparently suspected in his father’s death. Obviously, these are ideal circumstances to be in, but it may become ideal supernatural horror/drama.

Although Ash vs. Evil Dead proves not all critically acclaimed, fan-beloved horror shows last, this one has promise. In fact, Castle Rock will be like a one-two punch if it reaches season 2 as the It sequel’s in full swing. In fact, King somehow avoids problems of “over-hype” and over-saturation, as countless projects continue to spill forward.  This has been true since his humble beginnings in the early 1970s. The King-scape seems to keep expanding!

King Tested, Mother Approved

According to show creator Sam Shaw, Castle Rock has Stephen King’s official approval. In the EW interview, he said, “It was a very, very cool moment when J.J. forwarded us the email. You want to be sure that when Stephen King watches your Stephen King show, he’s happy.”

So, what are your thoughts?  Will this show be great and popular, or will Castle Rock defy expectations and fail?
