Is Legion coming back for a third season on FX?
FX has officially renewed their Marvel series Legion for a third season.
While Legion might not appeal to every viewer, the superhero drama has certainly earned its place as one of the most original shows of all time. Hollywood Reporter revealed FX has decided to extend their relationship with Marvel for another year after handing the series an extra episode for season two.
The renewal doesn’t reveal which cast members will be returning though. Undoubtedly, Dan Stevens will be back as protagonist David Haller, but the future is unclear for everyone else. With the second season of Legion still airing, there’s also been no word on who the villain will be next year.

Unless the series is actually a villainous origin story rather than a heroic one. Season two has put David in a position where it’s easy for the viewer to doubt which side he’s on. It would also be in line with the series’ ability to take the audience by surprise.
While it’s nearly impossible to predict what could happen, FX is confident in its partnership with both Marvel and Noah Hawley. President of Original Programming, Eric Schrier, had only positive things to say about the quirky series.
"“Legion has redefined the superhero drama and exceeded all expectations as the intensity and revelation build through the second season.”"
He also commented on the people involved with bringing the series to life. After the network chose not to move forward with a Deadpool series, their partnership with Marvel was called into question.
"“We are incredibly proud of Noah Hawley’s achievement and are honored to continue the series as it pushes the boundaries of conventional television storytelling. We are also grateful for the contributions of our executive producers, John Cameron, Lauren Shuler Donner, Simon Kinberg, and Jeph Loeb with Marvel Television, as well as our outstanding cast and crew of this groundbreaking show.”"
It’s unclear how the possible Disney/FOX merger will impact the third season of Legion. The MCU currently includes both movies and television. While mutants don’t yet exist in the Marvel Universe, it will need to be addressed on the show.

However, Legion has a very different tone compared to the rest of the Marvel Universe. Will Disney choose to let the series stand on its own or will it crossover with others? Considering how powerful David is, it wouldn’t be surprising to see SHIELD knocking on his door next year.
