After her breakout role as Cher in 1995’s Clueless, could Alicia Silverstone be poised to create another iconic role with American Woman?

The dramedy, premiering on the Paramount Network, stars Silverstone as Bonnie Nolan. Bonnie is a typical 1970s trophy wife who loses her idyllic Beverly Hills life after she discovers her husband cheating on her and makes the radical (for the time) move of divorcing him.

Left alone with two kids to raise, and facing challenges like the rise of feminism, sexual liberation and new relationships, Bonnie needs to take control of her life with the help of her friends.

Here’s what you need to know before the show premieres on June 7.

The show is based on the life of one of the Real Housewives

The series is inspired by the childhood of Real Housewives of Beverly Hills star Kyle Richards, and her experiences growing up in the 1970s with a single mother.

She describes the series as a “love letter” to her mother, Kathleen Richards, who was left penniless and alone after her husband cheated on her and abandoned the family.

“At the time, my mother was suddenly single,” she told Megyn Kelly Today, as reported by People.

“She didn’t know about money or what they had – she didn’t even have a checkbook.”

Kyle will also be serving as executive producer for the series.
