Netflix released a teaser trailer for the hour-long dramedy, The Good Cop, which will mark Tony Danza’s return to series TV.

Deadline reports that the streaming service also announced that all 10 episodes of The Good Cop will be released on September 21.

Danza stars in The Good Cop as Tony Sr., a rule-breaking former NYPD officer who lives with his son, Tony Jr., a rule-following NYPD detective. Josh Groban, best known as an opera singer, will play Tony Jr. in his first lead role on series TV.

As Tony Sr. offers blunt advice on everything from Tony Jr.’s professional to personal life, the pair will unofficially become partners.

More from Netflix

Netflix premiered the trailer during the 2018 Tony Awards, which Groban co-hosted.

The series will also star Monica Barbara as the female lead, Cara Vasquez, the newest detective on the NYPD. And Isiah Whitlock Jr., who will play  Burl Loomis, a veteran detective whose retirement is imminent.

Andy Breckman, the creator of Monk, will serve as showrunner and, along with Randy Zisk and Howard Klein, will executive produce.  The first episode will be directed by Zisk. Danza is also a producer.

Breckman’s experience with the long-running Monk, another cop dramedy, makes him a perfect fit to usher this new series along.

Of the kind of show he is striving to create with The Good Cop, Breckman told Deadline,

"Many cop shows feature dark and provocative material: psycho-sexual killers; twisted, grim, flawed detectives. Many address the most controversial issues of the day. I watch a lot of them. God bless ’em all. But the show I want to produce is playful, family-friendly and a celebration of old-fashioned puzzle-solving."

Danza’s return to TV is sure to generate buzz. He remains famous for his work on the sitcoms Taxi and Who’s the Boss, and fans will be excited to see his star turn in another series.

Groban is a lesser-known quantity. He’s been branching out more and more from music in smaller film and TV roles. He most recently starred in the Broadway musical Natasha, Pierre & The Great Comet of 1812.
