Mr. Sunshine — August 4

Mr. Sunshine is a Korean period drama set during the U.S. expedition to Korea in the late 19th century.

The series, created by writing/directing team Kim Eun-sook and Lee Eung-bok (Descendants of the Sun, Goblin), follows a young Korean boy who runs away aboard an American warship and returns years later as a U.S. Marine officer.

He then uncovers a dark plot to colonize Korea.

The series stars Lee Byung-hun (Red 2) as the marine officer Eugene Choi and Kim Tae-ri (The Handmaiden) as the aristocrat’s daughter with whom he falls in love.

With killer casting and a quality creative team, this 24-episode series looks sumptuous and intriguing.

Million Pound Menu — August 10

For fans of Food Network and cooking competition shows, Million Pound Menu looks like a quality distraction.

Host Fred Sirieix pits two sets of innovative restaurateurs against each other, each competing to get their million dollar concept funded by some of the leading restaurant investors.

Each team has three days to prove themselves using a 40 seat pop-up restaurant located in Manchester, England. Here they try to entice the general public and prove the popularity of their concept menu while trying to convince the investors to accept their business plan.

It sounds tense, interesting, and fun – and a great way to get a jump on the newest up-and-coming food trends.
