New The Walking Dead season 9 key art revealed

Promotion for the ninth season of AMC’s The Walking Dead is officially now in full swing leading up to its season premiere next month.

The latest bit of such promotion yesterday was the unveiling of some new key art.

The Walking Dead key art is largely taken up by Rick (Andrew Lincoln) wearing his trademark hat.  He also appears to be covered in a very deep shade of red which is unlikely to be actual blood but the main implications aren’t hard to figure out.

Standing behind Rick way in the back are his oldest and probably most loyal followers Daryl (Norman Reedus), Michonne (Danai Gurira), Maggie (Lauren Cohan) and Carol (Melissa McBride).

Season 9 of The Walking Dead will be largely based on the Whisperer storyline from the comics.

In the comics, after the community of Alexandria and their allies achieve a couple years worth of relative peace, they come into conflict with a dangerous group of survivors called the Whisperers led by a mysterious woman known simply as Alpha (Samantha Morton).

Besides that, The Walking Dead season 9 is sure to become a significant one for The Walking Dead for a couple of other reasons.  Stars Andrew Lincoln (Rick) and Lauren Cohan (Maggie) have both confirmed this will be their last seasons on the show.

Lauren Cohan’s exit from The Walking Dead is said to be an open-ended one but Lincoln’s is generally expected to be more final.

Season 9 of The Walking Dead will premiere on AMC on October 7th. What are your thoughts on the key art? Keep the conversation going in the comments section below and don’t forget to follow us on Facebook & Twitter for more on your favorite shows!
