Bojack Horseman season 5, episode 3 recap: ‘Planned Obsolescence’
By Ariba Bhuvad
Todd meets Yolanda’s sexually aware and promiscuous family while protecting Yolanda’s secret about being asexual on the third episode of Bojack Horseman.
Bojack Horseman is tackling all kinds of topics this season and amongst them is asexuality. Todd and Yolanda are in an asexual relationship and the time has come for him to meet her family. The only problem is that they have no idea that she is asexual, and in fact, her father is an erotic novelist while her mother is an adult film star so it definitely raises some complications.
On the other hand, Pickles and Mr. Peanutbutter have some relationship issues after Pickles speaks to Gina and realizes her relationship with Mr. Peanutbutter is moving too fast. They decide to slow it down, but end up going on a non-date trip together.
This episode of Bojack Horseman is also an interesting one for Gina and Bojack. After learning about Gina’s passion for musicals, he sets up a meeting with Flip so she can sign for him and Princess Carolyn. And while she initially resists, she goes ahead with it only to find her voice isn’t that great.

Yolanda’s mother starts to realize that Todd may be asexual and tries to come on to him. At the same time, Yolanda’s sister, Mindy tries to have sex with Todd too so the whole ordeal is a hot mess. It doesn’t help when Yolanda’s great-grandmother’s special lubricant spills and gets wasted, but it does result in Yolanda finally telling her family the truth.
Even though the trip to see her family turns out to be a success, she and Todd realize that they shouldn’t be together and break up. It seems things have also hit a dead-end for Gina and Bojack as well, but at least Mr. Peanutbutter and Pickles figured it out!
